Treasurer's Report:

Deborah Casey reported BTA checking account balance as $6054.20. The CD balance is $18,113.60.

Grievance Report:

Carleen Maselli: Last Tuesday was first day for class size bounty. See site administrator and also your contract for specifics about claiming.

State Council Report:

Carleen Maselli: Merit pay has been introduced into NCLB legislation. Call the "800" number provided, or use the form letter at mycta.org. Deborah Campbell, CeCe Grubbs, and Deborah Casey are requesting to go, as visitors, to CTA State Council. A motion was put forward for 4 people to attend state council, paying up to $3,000. Motion passed.

PAR Report:

Susan Gibbs: First PAR meeting this Thursday. There is a budget that needs to be allocated and spent as soon as possible. This is for staff development, and has funded such things as "Making Math Real," and the differentiated instruction certification classes.

Medical Benefits Report:

CeCe Grubbs: Sue Shabazz has retired and BTA must vote for a representative for the SCMPA. Deborah Campbell would like to be the replacement. Exec board will need to appoint the new person after this meeting.

There is a benefits plan conference coming up November 4th. We'd like to send one person, and may need to approve up to $1000 to send the new member. A motion to send Deborah Campbell was approved.

Assembly Bill 8 was endorsed by CTA. This would cover uninsured people and be funded by a social security tax. This would cater to the big health insurance companies.

PAC Report:

Suzanne James Peters: Andre Stewart and Bonnie Weidel are running for the two open BUSD Board seats. Bonnie is active in the art community. Andre is already sitting on the board. There have been no new memberships to the BTA/PAC, and no monies will be used in the next year. This money could be used for letter campaigning for upcoming medical and merit pay legislation. In two years there will be three board of education seats opening up.

Bargaining/Catastrophic Leave Bank Reports:

Deborah Casey: Net pay increase will be 6.08%, after medical and vision increases taken out.  Updated contract will be posted on mybta.org soon.

Catastrophic leave bank membership open until September 30th. No new dues needed for existing members.

New Business:

There's a new program at the elementary level called Accelerated Reader. It may take a lot of teaching time. It was initially presented as voluntary, but now it seems to be mandatory. It was purchased with BEF funding.

There will be a meeting at the library held by Betsy Eubanks regarding special education. We don't have any information about what this meeting will be about

Maya Nelson, JJ Jones, Carleen Maselli, Maggie Olsen, Teresa Badger, and Mike Sindel will attend the Regional One Conference October 5-7, 2007.
