Minutes for BTA Meeting held Sept. 1, 2010

Meeting called to order at 3:48 pm on 9/1/10 by Deborah Campbell

Attendance: 
Deborah Campbell, Gail Costanza, Maya Nelson, Barbara Jones, Suzanne James-Peters, Teresa Badger, Mary Louise Green, Jeff Jones, Carleen Maselli, Deborah Casey

Approval of Minutes:  A motion was made by Mary Louise Green and seconded by Maya Nelson to approve the minutes of the May 5, 2010.

Site Reports:
BMS - Many teachers have class loads over 155 students.  It is difficult to have part-time teachers because of the rotating schedule.  Some teachers were refused the option of working part time. 
BHS - There is a Science issue regarding work stations in the classroom.  Several  teachers were give a 120% contract and asked to sign it and then their contract was reduced to 100%.
Farmar -
Henderson - Everyone is getting acquainted with the new principal.  The beginning of school letter was sent via email instead of by mail.  
Turner - There were concerns about the calendar and the district letter.
Semple - They had concerns about how the days off were determined
Liberty -

Neg./CLB Report: Deborah Casey
CLB- Teachers do not need to make a donation this year.  Teachers who are not members have until September 30, 2010 to join.

Membership: Maya has membership cards to be distributed to the teachers.  Calendars are available.

New Business: Suzanne James-Peters made a presentation about the proposed parcel tax.  A motion was made by Deborah Casey and seconded by Gayle Costanza to endorse and support the local parcel tax.  The motion passed.

A motion was made by MaryLouise Green and seconded by Maya Nelson to apply for the CTA ABC grant for the parcel tax.  The motion passed.

A motion was made by Deborah Casey and seconded by Teresa Badger to make a $2,000 donation and the cost of the buttons to the Measure C committee to support the parcel tax.  The motion passed.

We need to add another member to the PAR committee.  Deborah has someone in mind for this.  There is a need to add two more people to the bargaining team.

Scholarships for Leadership conferences:  A motion was made by Carleen Maselli and seconded by JJ Jones to offer up to five scholarships for $500 each to cover registration, transportation, food and lodging.  The motion passed.

Retirement incentive:

BTA mixer: September 23, 2010 at Yatch Club, 4:00 – 6:00
