Minutes for BTA Meeting held October 6, 2010.
Meeting called to order at 3:40 pm on October 6, 2010 by Deborah Campbell.
Attendance:
Deborah Campbell, Gail Costanza, Maya Nelson, Barbara Jones, Jeff Jones,
Carleen Maselli, Lisa Delorefice, Teresa Badger, CeCe Grubbs, Kathryn
R. McNair-Lim, Suzanne James-Peters
Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Carleen and seconded by Mary Lou to approve the minutes of the September 1, 2010 meeting.
President's Report:
- Federal Money will be coming to the district.
- State Budget Crisis
- Discussion of health care coverage. We have two options now: Kaiser and Health Net. The cost of health care continues to rise and because of that a second health care option is less affordable. Cece will chair the committee on health care.
- CTA election is scheduled for this week on October 6 and 7.
Site Reports:
What has been done about fourth and fifth grade conferences? These
conferences are no longer required under State Ed code. The language
of the contract for fourth and fifth grade conferences indicates that they
can be done during Common Planning Time. At one time SIP days were
set aside for parent conference days.
BMS -
BHS -
Farmar -
Henderson -
Turner - Teacher observations are being done on an informal
basis and then reports are being placed in teacher mailboxes.

Treasurers Report: J.J.Jones
CD's: $18,780.77
Checking
Acct.: $40,722.44
Neg./CLB Report: Deborah Casey
CLB - There is no need to add to this for
this year. Next year we need to add more days.
Negotiations - The district has already cut what they can. Now cutting people and increasing class size is the next step. The problem is that there are small classrooms. Under the Williams Act, each student needs to have 25 square feet. The other areas that can be cut are salary and benefits.
Grievance: There are two active grievances; one is at level two.
Membership: Cards have been given out at each site. Changes need to be written on the card and then sent to Maya.
PAR Committee:- Deborah Campbell, Carleen Maselli, CeCe
Grubbs
Alternative evaluations are available. Funding is available for the
alternative evaluations. Up to $500 can be available for this type
of evaluation. Some schools have been given a very short timeline
to complete the paperwork and teachers want to have the deadline postponed. Since
we have a new form and new principals it would be beneficial to extend
the deadline.
Measure C: Suzanne James-Peters
This is
the third parcel tax that has been brought before the people of Benicia. Senior
citizens can apply for an exemption. There is an oversight committee
that is legally responsible and bound by the language of the ballot. There
are 600 lawn signs that were printed in black and white. BTA spent
$2,500 on this measure. BTA applied for a CTA ABC block grant of
$5,000 for Measure C. BTA members will be updated via personal emails.
Old Business: Teachers had a wonderful mixer at the Yacht Club.
Bargaining Team update: Two new members will be added soon.
New Business:
Meeting adjourned: 5:38 pm
Respectfully Submitted,
Suzanne Huddleston, BTA Recording Secretary
