BTA Meeting Minutes » January 6, 2010

The meeting called to order at 3:48 pm on January 6, 2010 by Deborah Campbell.

Attendance:  Deborah Campbell, Maya Nelson, Kathy Maloney, Carleen Maselli, Gayle Costanza, CeCe Grubbs, Nan Prolo, Deborah Casey  

Minutes for the BTA meeting held on December 2, 2009 were approved as corrected.

Site Reports:
BMS - Coffee and doughnuts were appreciated.  There are meetings regarding the PI issues.
BHS - Coffee and doughnuts were greatly appreciated.  WASC is being worked on.
Farmar -
Henderson - Everyone liked the coffee and doughnuts.
Turner -
Semple - Coffee and doughnuts were appreciated.
Liberty -

Treasurers Report:  J. J. Jones           
CD’s:  $18,733.94           
Checking Acct.:  $38,902.25

Neg./CLB Report:  Deborah Casey
CLB- Two requests have been made and granted.

Negotiations –The team will be meeting later this month.  Both last year and this year are open.  The District is looking at cuts.  There is a good reserve in the budget.  We should be OK for next year. 

Grievance:
-BMS safety issue is being worked on now with a possibility of being solved by January 15, 2010.
-BMS staff meeting that was held on a Friday afternoon was for District work.  The District will be paying the teachers for the two hours at the non-student rate. 
-BMS class size issue regarding bounty is close to being settled.  The language in the contract needs to be improved to avoid this situation in the future.

Membership:
-BTA has one fee payer.

New Business:
-There was some information on the State’s budget for 2011-2012.
-The District is offering a $1,500 incentive for early retirement notification.  Once a teacher signs retirement papers, the decision cannot be revoked.
-The District is interested in having BTA come to agreement on terms of the Race to the Top and sign a MOU regarding the issues.  A motion was made for BTA to sign the RTTT MOU which will protect bargaining rights for the association.  The motion was made by Nan Prolo and seconded by Deborah Casey.  The motion was passed unanimously.
-There are 8 teachers who want to go to the Good Teaching Conference.  Only 5 teachers went to the conference.
-The next E-Waste event will be on January 30-31, 2010 at Benicia High School.
-We got legal assistance for the Buy Back Day problem.
-The Workload Summit is being worked on.
-Chat and Chew is scheduled for January 29, 2010.
-Mileage has gone from 55 cents to 50 cents per mile because the Federal Government has made the change.
-The Calendar will be voted on in a few weeks.

The next meeting will be on February 3, 2010.  A presentation on 403Bs will be made at the meeting.
